Every gym, every social circle, every family gathering has one. That person. The one who, after watching a single YouTube video or overhearing a snatch of conversation, suddenly becomes the
undisputed expert on everything. They're not just smart; they outsmart reality. You know the type: always looking for the shortcut, the hack, the secret loophole in the laws of physics and biology.

Let's call our current genius, Björn-Patrik. Björn-Patrik, has always had a fondness for the culinary delights of the local takeaway – Big Macs, pizzas, kebabs. Perhaps it’s a dash of laziness, or maybe just a deep, abiding love for grease and convenience. One fateful day, Björn- Patrik stumbled upon a groundbreaking concept: the calorie deficit. Eureka! His eyes lit up. If he just ate fewer calories than he burned, he'd lose weight! Simple!

And because Björn-Patrik is so “smart”, it did not take him too long to produce the master plan. Fruit, vegetables, steamed chicken, what’s even in that stuff anyway, he could achieve the same
deficit with a Big Mac on Monday, a pizza on Tuesday, and a kebab on Wednesday? Then, just rinse and repeat. To ensure he had "everything he needed," he’d simply pop a vitamin pill each
day. And because everybody knows it ́s healthy to drink lots of water, “obviously” the more the better, he was ready. Björn-Patrik had seen those UFC fighters guzzling enormous amounts of
water the week before a fight to lose weight, So 10 litres a day should do the trick, that should put him in "fighting shape" in no time! Björn-Patrik, in his own mind, clearly is a metabolic genius.
Obviously he now needed a new Computer to write his new weight loss book, that will make him millions. Now is it a red Ferrari or a yellow Lamborghini. Such are the problems that weight the shoulders of greatness.

There Is Always One: Smart Enough to Outsmart Reality?

Burger Shot

A diet consisting solely of Big Macs, pizzas, and kebabs, even if it creates a deficit, is a nutritional
wasteland. Here's why Björn-Patrik ticking time bomb of a body is getting ready to go full mutiny on confused Björn-Patrik:

1. Micronutrient Black Hole: Vitamin pills are a supplement, not a substitute for real food. They lack the complex array of antioxidants, phytochemicals, fibre, and synergistic compounds found in whole foods. Your body absorbs and utilises nutrients from actual food far more effective than any vitamin pill, they are literally called supplements.

2. Macronutrient Imbalance: His diet would be woefully short on quality protein and healthy fats, and overflowing with refined carbs, unhealthy fats, and sugar. This leads to constant energy crashes, intense cravings (ironically!), and rapid muscle loss.

3. Gut Health Apocalypse: No fibre means a very unhappy gut. Constipation, bloating, and a disturbed gut microbiome would be Björn-Patrik ́s constant companions, impacting everything from his digestion to his mood and immune system.

So what happens to Björn-Patrik (and Anyone Else on This "Diet")?
• A Few Weeks In: Initial rapid weight loss occurs, but it's largely water and muscle, not fat. Björn-Patrik would feel absolutely dreadful – constant fatigue, irritability, brain fog, (which
he absolutely does not need any more of) and relentless hunger. His skin might start looking dull, and his hair wouldn't thank him that’s for sure. The "energy" from the junk food highs would be followed by dramatic lows.

• A Few Months In: Nutrient deficiencies would become significant. His immune system would weaken, leaving him vulnerable to every passing bug. Metabolism would plummet
due to muscle loss, making further fat loss increasingly difficult. His gut health would be a disaster zone, affecting nutrient absorption.

• A Year In: We're now talking serious health problems: potential organ damage (liver, kidneys), severe nutrient deficiencies leading to long-term chronic fatigue, brittle bones, skin issues, and a significantly increased risk of developing metabolic disorders like Type 2 Diabetes. His mental health would also likely suffer, given the impact of poor nutrition on mood and cognitive function.

But what about all the water, that’s good right?..
Björn-Patrik inspired by UFC fighters is way off the mark, he has completely misunderstood the extreme and dangerous practice of weight cutting in combat sports. Fighters "water load" and
then drastically dehydrate themselves for a very temporary drop in body weight specifically for a weigh-in, about 36 hours before a fight. It's about manipulating body fluid, not losing fat, and it's
highly dangerous, putting immense stress on organs like the kidneys and leading to severe electrolyte imbalances, muscle cramps, collapse, and even death. It has absolutely nothing to do
with healthy, sustainable weight management.

And Björn-Patrik ́s idea of drinking "the more the better" daily? That's a fast track to hyponatremia, a potentially life-threatening condition where your blood sodium levels drop dangerously low because you've diluted them with too much water. Your kidneys can only
excrete so much water per hour. Consuming well over 5-7 litres a day (depending on activity level, climate, and individual health) without replacing electrolytes can be seriously dangerous. So, while consuming adequate fluids is absolutely crucial for your health – for digestion, nutrient transport, temperature regulation, and overall bodily function – it is definitively not a case of "just physically consume as much water as possible." Your body sends thirst signals for a reason.
Listen to them.

The Reality is: Reality Always Wins
Björn-Patrik "genius move" is a textbook example of trying to outsmart reality. The truth about health and fitness is reality always wins, just because you don’t know about something, it does
not mean it does not exist. There is never a shortcut, most things almost always involves a balanced approach and health and fitness is not an exception. You can't cheat your body or the fundamental principles of nutrition and exercise. It's about providing your body with the nutrients it needs, moving it consistently, and respecting its incredible complexity. Leave the "hacks" to the online gurus trying to sell you something. If you are trying to lose weight, safely and permanently we have a bunch of friendly faces right here waiting to help you, and none of them are called Björn-Patrik.
